Archaeologists call it the only sunken city in the Western Hemisphere comparable to Pompeii. Port Royal was the pirate capital of the Caribbean, Henry Morgan's base, called 'the wickedest city on earth'. On 7 June 1692 an earthquake and tsunami dropped 33 acres of it into the harbour in minutes and killed around 2,000 people, with 3,000 more dying afterwards. Many at the time read it as divine judgement. Anchorage: Kingston Harbour is one of the largest natural harbours in the world, with excellent shelter.
