A palm-fringed sand spit so narrow you can stand on it with Atlantic surf on one side and a flat turquoise anchorage on the other. Mayreau has 300 residents, one hilltop church with the best view in the Grenadines, and no airport. Mayreau was privately owned by the Saint-Hilaire family for generations and has no airstrip, which is why it stayed small while neighbouring islands developed. Salt Whistle Bay's beach bar has been serving anchored yachts since the 1970s. Anchorage: A near-perfect crescent behind a narrow palm spit; well protected from the trades but tight, arrive early for a spot. Hazards: No site-specific hazards noted, brief normally.
