An uninhabited island with a wreck-strewn shoreline, turtles in the grass off the beach, natural clay the day-charter crowd covers itself in, and, ashore at Grand Case, the best concentration of restaurants in the Leewards. Tintamarre had an airstrip and a small settlement run by a Dutch entrepreneur in the 1900s; both are gone and the island is now inside the French national nature reserve created in 1998. Anchorage: Tintamarre has reserve moorings off a sand beach on an uninhabited island; Grand Case, on the French north coast, is a straightforward sand anchorage off a village that is the eating capital of the island. Hazards: Anchoring is banned inside the reserve, use the buoys. Tintamarre is uninhabited with no shelter if it blows.
