Two submerged female figures lying in a shallow English river, visible through the water from the footpath, one cast in resin, one in stone, slowly disappearing under algae and weed as the seasons change. Quiet, melancholy, and entirely free. Installed in 2008 by Jason deCaires Taylor, two years after Grenada, and one of his earliest works, created before the underwater museum concept existed. The pose references Millais' painting of the drowned Ophelia, which was itself set on an English river. Anchorage: Not a yacht destination, an inland curiosity for the completists' map layer. Hazards: None, viewed from the bank.
