A 9,000-year-old village on the seabed, rectangular stone house foundations, a stone semicircle of seven megaliths around a freshwater spring, hearths, and the oldest known human-built water well. Human skeletons found here carry the earliest documented cases of tuberculosis. A Pre-Pottery Neolithic C village, occupied around 7000 BC and submerged as sea levels rose after the last ice age, possibly abruptly, as one theory attributes the flooding to a tsunami from a collapse of Mount Etna around 6000 BC. Discovered in 1984 by Ehud Galili. It is among the oldest and largest submerged settlements known anywhere. Anchorage: Haifa and Herzliya marinas. An active archaeological site with restricted access. Hazards: An active archaeological site with restricted access.
