180m of Italian liner lying upright on sand, the largest diveable wreck in the Caribbean. The swimming pool at 40m is the money shot. Spotted eagle rays, nurse sharks and a resident barracuda squadron; the bow section is the most intact. Caught fire in St George's harbour on 22 October 1961 when a boiler exploded. Grenadian fishermen rowed out through the flames and took off nearly every one of the 673 aboard; the burning liner was towed clear and sank two days later. Grenada's Christ of the Deep statue on the Carenage is Italy's thank-you. Anchorage: Anchor in Grand Anse / Port Louis Marina; boat dive with current. Hazards: No site-specific hazards noted, brief normally.
