Bull sharks and Caribbean reef sharks in numbers on the edge of the Gulf Stream, 50 miles from Miami, the closest serious shark diving to the US mainland. Spotted eagle rays, and in season the great hammerheads that make Bimini famous. The water is the deep cobalt of the Stream itself. Bimini sits where the Bahama Bank drops into the Gulf Stream, which is why Hemingway based himself here for the big-game fishing in the 1930s and wrote 'Islands in the Stream' about it. The Bimini Shark Lab has tagged and tracked these populations since 1990, and the 2011 Bahamas shark sanctuary is why they are still here in numbers. Anchorage: Bimini marinas; the Gulf Stream edge is minutes offshore. Hazards: No site-specific hazards noted, brief normally.
