Water so pale it looks tropical, over white sand between two islands, with a chain of caves and tunnels along the Comino shore, Santa Marija Caves are a genuine cave dive network with shafts of light, and the Crystal Lagoon next door is deeper and emptier. Comino has fewer than five permanent residents. Once a pirate base and later a quarantine and isolation island, it is now a Natura 2000 reserve. Malta introduced boat caps and beach-vendor limits in 2023 to control the day-tripper volume, worth checking current rules before promising an anchorage slot. Anchorage: Anchor in the Blue Lagoon in 3-8m over white sand, one of the most famous anchorages in the Mediterranean. Arrive before 09:00 or after 17:00; midday is chaos. Hazards: No site-specific hazards noted, brief normally.
