Some of the most dramatic vertical walls on earth, coral cliffs starting at 3m and falling 1,500m, riddled with caves and overhangs. 390 coral species, seven of the world's nine giant clam species, turtles everywhere, and a shallow reef top perfect for snorkellers. Protected since 1991, Bunaken pioneered a diver-funded conservation model, an entrance fee tag system that pays for patrols and village compensation, later copied across Indonesia. Anchorage: Anchor in the Manado/Bunaken channel; well sheltered. Hazards: No site-specific hazards noted, brief normally.
