The Mediterranean as it was before development, an uninhabited national park archipelago with a 14th-century castle over the harbour, the Cova Blava sea cave that turns the water electric blue at midday, groupers that approach you, and the clearest water in the Balearics. Used as a prison camp for 9,000 French soldiers captured at Bailén in 1809, around 5,000 died of starvation on this small island, commemorated by a monument. Declared a national park in 1991 and kept deliberately hard to visit, which is exactly why it is pristine.
