Wind-sculpted granite boulders, white sand and water that shades from white to jade to deep blue in three metres. Budelli's Spiaggia Rosa, a genuinely pink beach, is strictly off-limits to landing but visible from the water. Sixty-plus islands and islets to work through. Declared a national park in 1994 after decades of use as a NATO and Italian naval area, including a US submarine base on Santo Stefano until 2008. The pink beach was closed in 1994 after tourists carried away sand for souvenirs; it has been recovering under armed guard ever since. Anchorage: Numerous anchorages with shelter available in every wind direction, one of the best cruising grounds in the Med. Park permit required; strict zoning. Hazards: No site-specific hazards noted, brief normally.
