Schools of 20-100 scalloped hammerheads circling the north plateau in summer, plus the finest gorgonian and anemone gardens in the Red Sea on the south wall, thresher sharks, manta and huge napoleon wrasse. A lone reef with a 19th-century lighthouse in the middle of the Red Sea, sailors have feared it for two centuries. For divers it is the most reliable hammerhead aggregation in the northern hemisphere outside the Pacific. Anchorage: Liveaboard, mooring only, an isolated reef with a lighthouse. Hazards: No site-specific hazards noted, brief normally.
