Submerged pinnacles topping out at 18m with barrel sponges, dense soft coral and schooling snapper, and big animals passing on the current, grey reef sharks, dogtooth tuna, giant trevally, eagle rays and marbled rays on the sand between the rocks. The Andamans are the exposed tips of a submarine mountain chain, and the 2004 earthquake lifted or dropped parts of the archipelago by more than a metre, changing the reef line permanently. Access is controlled, parts of the group are closed to protect the Jarawa and Sentinelese peoples. Anchorage: Anchor off Havelock's Vijaynagar or Govind Nagar beaches; the Andamans are a restricted cruising ground and require clearance. Hazards: Open-sea pinnacles with current and no surface reference; strict deco discipline, and the nearest chamber is in Port Blair.
