A no-take park on a sand and eelgrass bottom seeded with sunk boats, tyres and structures joined by guide ropes, which has turned into the reliable place to find a giant Pacific octopus, along with wolf eels, lingcod and cabezon that have not been fished in half a century. Closed to fishing in 1970 and built up deliberately ever since, largely by volunteers who sank structures and strung the guide lines that still run through it. It is one of the oldest marine sanctuaries in Washington and the reason the octopus here are the size they are. Anchorage: Not an anchorage, a shore dive next to a ferry terminal. Yachts lie in Edmonds marina alongside. Hazards: Cold year round, low light, and the ferry lane immediately south of the park, which is the reason the boundaries are marked and must be respected.
