Belize's best wall dive, coral spurs dropping into blue with eagle rays, turtles and reef sharks, and above it, Half Moon Caye's red-footed booby colony, 4,000 birds in a litoral forest you walk through on a boardwalk. The Great Blue Hole is on the same atoll. Half Moon Caye became Belize's first protected area in 1928, specifically to save the booby colony, and its first national monument in 1982. The Belize Barrier Reef is the largest in the northern hemisphere; Belize banned offshore oil drilling in 2017 after a national campaign, getting the reef removed from UNESCO's danger list. Anchorage: Anchor inside Lighthouse Reef and Turneffe lagoons, extensive sheltered water. Half Moon Caye is a national monument with a ranger station. Hazards: No site-specific hazards noted, brief normally.
