The steel frames of a 1908 German racing schooner lying in 3m of bay water, ribs, keel and hull plating outlined on the sand, easily read from the surface. A Florida Underwater Archaeological Preserve inside sight of the Miami skyline. Built in Germany in 1908 as the racing yacht Germania, she was seized as a war prize, later became a Cuba charter and cabaret boat renamed Half Moon, and sank at her mooring in a 1930 storm. She was the first vessel in Biscayne Bay to be protected as a state preserve, in 2000. Anchorage: Pick up the site mooring; Crandon and Key Biscayne are minutes away. Hazards: Current through Bear Cut; visibility is bay-turbid, not reef-clear. Protected archaeological site.
