A British submarine sitting upright on the sand at 52m, largely intact, with the mine damage visible forward and her gun in place. Sombre and rarely dived. Mined in December 1941 with 61 aboard. Stoker John Capes, a passenger, escaped from 52m using an early Davis escape set, a depth then thought unsurvivable, swam several miles to Kefalonia and was hidden by islanders for 18 months. Nobody believed him until divers found the wreck in 1997 exactly as he described it, with the escape hatch open. Anchorage: Ionian anchorages nearby; deep offshore dive requiring permits and a licensed operator. Hazards: Trimix-level dive; the wreck is a protected war grave, no penetration, no removal.
