Europe's largest marine protected area, and almost nobody cruises it. Marettimo is a single mountain rising from deep water with 400 sea caves, monk-seal history and no cars. Favignana's flooded tufa quarries make surreal swimming pools cut into the coast. The Egadi were the site of the decisive naval battle of the First Punic War in 241 BC, and the seabed here has yielded dozens of bronze warship rams, the largest collection of ancient naval artefacts ever found. The islands ran Sicily's tuna trap (tonnara) industry until the 1980s. Anchorage: Exposed island group, pick your side by the wind. Favignana's Cala Rossa and Levanzo's Cala Fredda are the classics. Hazards: No site-specific hazards noted, brief normally.
