Tens of thousands of mobula rays, 'flying devil rays', moving as one dark cloud, leaping clear of the water in unison for reasons nobody has settled. Snorkel into the middle and you're inside a living blizzard. Also sea lion colonies at Los Islotes, whale sharks, and Cabo Pulmo's recovered reef. Cousteau called the Sea of Cortez 'the world's aquarium'. Cabo Pulmo is the region's conservation legend, local families stopped fishing in 1995, and biomass rose over 400% in 15 years, the most successful marine reserve recovery ever documented. Anchorage: Espíritu Santo's bays (Ensenada Grande, Partida) are among the finest anchorages in the Sea of Cortez. Hazards: No site-specific hazards noted, brief normally.
