The rusted hull of the freighter Panagiotis half-buried in white pebbles at the foot of 200m limestone cliffs, in water that is a luminous, almost artificial blue. Round the headland, the Blue Caves' arches turn everything beneath the surface electric. The Panagiotis grounded here in 1980, the story that it was a cigarette smuggler chased by the navy is the version everyone tells. Landslides in 2018 injured tourists and the beach has been repeatedly closed since; the view from the water is the reliable one. Anchorage: Fully exposed to the north-west, day visit in settled weather only. NOTE, rockfall has repeatedly closed the beach; landing may be prohibited. Verify before promising. Hazards: NOTE, rockfall has repeatedly closed the beach; landing may be prohibited.
