A sandbar in the middle of the bay where the water goes waist-deep and turquoise and Miami's entire boating culture assembles, hundreds of boats rafted up on a Sunday, music, and the skyline in the distance. Rays and small sharks cruise the edges. On a Tuesday it's yours alone. Named for Richard Nixon, whose Key Biscayne 'Florida White House' compound was nearby and whose Secret Service boats used these flats. The sandbar culture that grew here, raft-ups, sandbar bars, floating markets, is now the template copied across South Florida. Anchorage: The definitive Miami weekend raft-up. Sand bottom, excellent holding, but it is a tidal bar, know your draught and the tide or you will sit on it. Hazards: No site-specific hazards noted, brief normally.
