Roofless stone houses in olive terraces, a church that is still maintained by people who row over for the saint's day, and a bay where the only sound is goats and your own chain. The Ionian earthquake of August 1953 destroyed most of Kefalonia, Zakynthos and Ithaca and cracked Port Leone's spring. Without water the village was abandoned within a few years, and it has stayed exactly as it was left. Anchorage: A deep bay with an abandoned village around it, houses, terraces and a church still standing, emptied after the 1953 earthquake cut the spring. Take a line ashore, swim, and walk the paths. Hazards: Deep water close to the shore means taking a line to the rocks; there is no water, no shop and no road out.
