An intact WWII minelaying submarine sitting upright on the sand off Saint-Tropez, conning tower and deck gun in place, gorgonians on the hull. Among the most atmospheric dives in the Med and a short hop from the busiest anchorage on the Riviera. The most successful Allied minelaying submarine of WWII, Rubis sank or damaged 22 ships on 28 patrols and was one of the few French vessels to fight on with the Free French after 1940. Deliberately scuttled as a dive site and sonar target in 1958. Anchorage: Anchor off Pampelonne / Saint-Tropez; short boat run. Hazards: No site-specific hazards noted, brief normally.
