A 55m steamer lying on a slope with her bow in 1m of water and her stern at 25m, so a single dive runs from snorkel depth to deep. Freshwater has preserved her almost intact, engine, boilers, cabins, even the pilothouse steps. Struck a reef in June 1928 while backing out of Washington Harbor; her captain ran her at the shore and everyone aboard survived except a dog left in the hold. Isle Royale's ten major wrecks make it the best-preserved shipwreck park in North America. Anchorage: Isle Royale National Park, Washington Harbor anchorage; park permits required. Hazards: Water 4-10°C, drysuit.
