An 1862 iron-and-wood P&O steamer whose exposed ribs make her look like a shipwreck should, a skeletal Victorian hull draped in soft coral, with intact wine bottles still visible in the debris and huge glassfish shoals in the frames. Struck Abu Nuhas on 12 September 1869 carrying mail, cotton, copper and £40,000 in gold specie to Bombay. The captain kept passengers aboard for 34 hours rather than landing them; she then broke her back and 31 died. Much of the gold was recovered; the wine was not. Anchorage: Abu Nuhas moorings. Hazards: No site-specific hazards noted, brief normally.
