A twin-engine aircraft lying in barely two metres of water on white sand, wings, fuselage and engine nacelles all clearly readable, and you can stand next to it. Grunts and snapper have moved into the fuselage. Arguably the easiest wreck dive on earth and one of the best photographs in the Exumas. Down since the 1970s and tied to the same cocaine-running operation that used Norman's Cay to the north, the Exumas' airstrips and shallow banks made the chain a perfect transshipment route into Florida. Two aircraft wrecks in one island chain is not a coincidence. Anchorage: Anchor off Staniel Cay in 3-5m sand; the plane is a two-minute tender hop. Hazards: Time it for slack, the Exuma cuts run hard and the sand clouds on the ebb.
