The deepest cenote in Quintana Roo. A single shaft of sunlight punches down through 30m of impossibly clear water into a chamber the size of a cathedral, with a hydrogen sulphide haze and ancient tree trunks on the bottom at 40m. The light beam is the reason people come. Explored and surveyed by cave divers in the 1990s and connected into the Sac Actun system. Prehistoric human remains and Pleistocene animal bones have been recovered from its floor, the cenotes are the richest ice-age fossil archive in the Americas. Anchorage: Inland excursion. Hazards: No site-specific hazards noted, brief normally.
