The headquarters of the first marine reserve in the Caribbean, you lie to a mooring in a turquoise creek with nothing built in sight, walk trails past blowholes and a full sperm whale skeleton, and climb Boo Boo Hill to leave a piece of driftwood carved with your boat's name, a cruising tradition decades old. The Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park was established in 1958, the first land-and-sea park in the world, and became fully no-take in 1986. The whale skeleton on the beach is a sperm whale that died of plastic ingestion, the park left it deliberately as an exhibit. Anchorage: Park moorings in a deep tidal creek that curls around a shallow sand flat, a spectacular and unusual berth. Reserve on VHF; they fill by mid-morning. Hazards: A no-take park, no fishing, no shelling, no removal of anything. The creek current is strong at spring tides.
