Vessel Description

1975 Contest 31 HT for Sale in Zeewolde, NL

Contest 31 HT-AC 'Red King' – Robust, seaworthy, and comfortable with a large cockpit and a spacious cabin. Ready as both a family cruiser and a racing yacht. This Contest is owned by the third Dutch owner. A powerful vessel capable of handling sailing challenges and offering many possibilities. The Red King has made many trips with the family on the Randmeren, the IJsselmeer, the Wadden Sea, and in Zeeland. The two separate aft cabins (AC) offer spacious sleeping accommodations, and the total of 6 berths make this ship very suitable for spending the summer holidays with the family. The spacious outdoor cockpit with sprayhood and 360-degree rotating Lagun Cockpit Table (storable) makes outdoor living appealing. The mast has been slightly shortened to a clearance height of 12.50 meters, ensuring that the fixed bridges on the Randmeren and the Zeeland Bridge pose no obstacle. To maximize sailing performance, the mainsail has been extended. The original engine was replaced in 2007 by a reliable and efficient 3-cylinder Ventus M3.09 with 25 hp. This Contest is also very suitable for coastal and sea sailing and has sailed across the North Sea and to the German Wadden, Denmark, and England (including London) in recent years. Over the past 20 years, this vessel has also been used as a racing yacht for, among others, the local competition, Rondje Noordholland, the Nacht van Spakenburg, and the Challenge Cup. Due to the sailing characteristics of this ship, she is also easily sailable solo. This ship is truly an all-rounder and ready to sail. On the water, the Contest 31 is known for its pleasant, calm, and stable handling, even in stronger winds and waves. A suitable vessel for both novice and experienced sailors.

The interior is nautical and timeless with ample storage space, a chart table, wet locker, enclosed (electric) toilet compartment, and as an extra, a gimbaled gas oven for croissants at breakfast. In 2025, the roller furling jib (high aspect) was renewed and fitted with a white UV strip.

The underwater hull underwent osmosis treatment in 2017 and has remained free of osmosis blisters in recent years.

The VAT has been demonstrably paid.
