The Grand Banks reputation for building a superior cruising experience is one built from the bottom up- literally, starting with the Sparkman & Stephens designed hull, a modified deep-V, is no exception. One of the first observations people make is how well it performs with today's high powered engines. Remarkably fast, quiet, comfortable and agile at either helm station.
Many subtle design features contribute to the low trim angle and great visibility, from the distribution of weight to the specialized geometry of the propeller tunnels. The twin tunnels also allow for better stability most noticable at anchor or slower speeds. The dual chine hull gets you swiftly on plane, and along with the flared bow helps keep things dry on deck. The wide 15'9" beam not only provides for more space and openess throughout the living areas, it also serves to increase stability at sea for an even more comfortable ride.
Just as important as the design of her hull is its construction a time tested process that is renowned for producing seaworthy, long lasting boats. The highest quality fiberglass fabrics are expertly hand laid and laminated with resins selected for their ability to resist blistering. The 47 Europa is solid fiberglass below the waterline with topsides that are cored above the boot stripe using Herex cross linked closed cell foam to prevent water intrusion. This coring is vacuum-bagged into place to optimize strength and weight savings. A system of heavy duty stringers is molded of fiberglass and bonded to the hull for added strength and rigidity.
Living Quarters
A generous 15'9" beam makes the 47 Europa ultra roomy, and an interior designed by renowned U.K. design team Design Unlimited makes it both practical and beautiful. Ergonomically fashioned for maximum comfort, the galley-up layout includes granite countertops, top-quality appliances and cleverly designed storage throughout. In the salon, a large L-settee surrounds the handcrafted teak dining table. The pull out L-settee is designed to create a double berth if needed for additional guests. The optional starboard settee provides so much more than just a place to sit. With excellent storage beneath, two teak stools are contained at both ends, perfect space for a nap or a single bunk. This living space opens aft to an expansive cockpit, protected from the elements by the extended flybridge deck.
The Grand Banks Ride
Owners describe the sensation at the helm of a Grand Banks as stable, steady and supremely responsive. The reputation for a superior cruising experience is one built from the bottom up- literally, starting with an expertly designed and constructed hull for each of the "Heritage" models.
The 47 Europa is a Sparkman & Stephens designed hull, a modified deep V, is no exception. One of the first things you'll notice is how well it performs with today's high powered engines. Passing 20 knots on a plane with a pair of 550 hp Cummins QSC8.3's on board, the ride is remarkable , quiet, comfortable and agile at the touch of the wheel.
Many subtle design features contribute to the low trim angle and great visibility , from the distribution of weight to the specialized geometry of the propeller tunnels. Those twin tunnels also allow for improved efficiency at higher speeds and better stability at slower speeds. The dual chine hull gets you swiftly up on plane, and along with the flared bow helps keep things dry on deck. More rake in the bow angle and a shallower forefoot make for a softer, more comfortable entry of the hull into rough waters. Placement and size of the keel keeps her solidly on track.
And then there's the beam: at 15 feet 9 inches, her wide beam not only provides for more space and opens through the living areas, it also serves to increase stability at sea for an even more comfortable ride.
