The FARR 72 “BY FARR” (NED 711), formerly known as YEOMAN XXX, is one of Bruce Farr’s most iconic maxi racer-cruisers. Designed as a true offshore racing yacht while offering exceptional cruising comfort, she combines the performance pedigree of Farr Yacht Design with the elegance of renowned designer Andrew Winch, who created her profile, deck layout and interior.
Built in 1991 by Eric Bongers Boatbuilders in South Africa, a shipyard famous for several Whitbread Maxis, this 22-metre yacht was conceived to compete in major international races while remaining manageable by a reduced crew.
Today, this FARR 72 benefits from significant technical upgrades:
- New Lorima carbon mast (2021)
- New carbon Park Avenue boom (2021)
- New Rod standing rigging (2021)
- B&G Hercules 5000 navigation system (2021)
- New Doyle Fastnet mainsail and jib (2024)
- Two North Sails A3 gennakers in excellent condition
The deck layout has been optimised with custom hydraulic Lewmar winches, Navtec hydraulic vang and Harken hydraulic furling system, making this yacht remarkably easy to handle with a smaller crew.
The Andrew Winch-designed interior, finished in honeycomb cherry wood, provides an elegant and solid base. She accommodates up to seven guests in four cabins with three bathrooms.
However, the yacht would benefit from:
- A new paint finish for the deck and superstructure.
- An interior refit and modernization program to bring the accommodation up to contemporary standards.
Powered by a 110 HP Yanmar 4JH4-HTE engine installed in 2014 with approximately 1,500 hours, she is also equipped with a Northern Lights 12 kVA generator, a new Zen 50 l/h watermaker installed in 2024 and modern electronics including B&G H5000 autopilot, Zeus 2 chartplotter, B&G Broadband radar, Raymarine AIS and Iridium GO.
