AMAALA Yacht Club has unveiled plans to launch the world’s first international regattas powered entirely by renewable energy: a milestone that positions Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea coast at the forefront of sustainable competitive sailing. The announcement comes just days after the debut of AMAALA Triple Bay, the region’s new luxury yachting hub, and ahead of its role as host for the 2027 Ocean Race Grand Finale.

Speaking at the Yacht Racing Forum in Amsterdam, AMAALA leadership confirmed that starting next year, all competitions staged by the club will run on 100 percent solar power, establishing a new (and dare we say long-awaited) global benchmark for environmentally responsible regatta operations.

The decision follows the standout performance of Team AMAALA during this summer’s Ocean Race Europe campaign: a program that resonated globally, championing youth empowerment, wellbeing, and Saudi Arabia’s expanding presence in elite sailing. The team’s journey inspired a new generation to forge deeper connections with the ocean and with the sport.

A Collaborative Push Toward a Regenerative Future

Rosanna Chopra, executive director at Red Sea Global, underscored the importance of partnership-driven progress, highlighting AMAALA’s strategic alliances with the Royal Yacht Squadron and the Yacht Club de Monaco. These collaborations, she noted, are critical to advancing ocean stewardship and shaping the future of sailing for “Generation Ocean.”

Crew members from Team AMAALA have become ambassadors for physical and mental wellbeing, further reinforcing the campaign’s impact beyond the racecourse.

Ideal Sailing Conditions Meet a New Era of Competition

Boaters and sailors have long praised the Red Sea for its reliable winds, warm temperatures, and year-round sailing conditions; making it an exceptional venue for everyone from dinghy sailors and foilers to superyacht owners. The region’s deep maritime heritage, spanning ancient trade routes to cutting-edge regenerative tourism, offers an atmospheric and meaningful backdrop for world-class competition.

After Team AMAALA’s successful symbolic passage through the Suez Canal, a preview of the 2027 finale route, momentum is building. Beginning in 2026, new flagship events—including the AMAALA 600, Classic Week, foiling regattas, and match racing—will cement the Red Sea as a rising global hub for competitive sailing.

Developing the Next Generation of Sailors

At the heart of AMAALA’s vision is the soon-to-launch AMAALA Yacht Club Sailing Academy, designed to support young sailors from early childhood through age 25. The academy will be bolstered by the Coral Cadet Program and partnerships with the Royal Yacht Squadron and Yacht Club de Monaco, ensuring world-class coaching, mentorship, and pathways into international competition.

With its commitment to renewable energy, youth development, and ocean conservation, AMAALA Yacht Club is not simply hosting sailing events—it is redefining what a modern regatta can be.
