Safe Harbor Marinas confirms acquisition of Front Street Shipyard
After months of industry speculation, Safe Harbor Marinas has confirmed the acquisition of Front Street Shipyard, the full-service shipyard, marina and custom refit facility located in Belfast, Maine.
Founded in 2011, Front Street Shipyard recently marked its 15th year in operation. The transaction follows an announcement from president JB Turner that he and his partners were seeking a new owner capable of providing additional capital and long-term support to expand the yard’s capabilities.
“Our goal has always been to find a partner who could bring further investment and resources to support our team, our facilities and our waterfront community,” Turner previously explained. “After evaluating several options, we believe Safe Harbor is the right group to carry that vision forward.”
Although approaching retirement, Turner confirmed he will remain actively involved to ensure continuity for clients and a smooth transition. “I’ve been proud to be part of Front Street Shipyard since the beginning, and I plan to continue leading the company for several more years,” he said. “We don’t anticipate many visible changes in the short term. Our team stays in place, our standards remain the same and daily operations will continue as usual. The most significant developments will be new investments in infrastructure, equipment and facilities beginning in 2026.”
Front Street Shipyard offers a combination of wet slips, transient berthing and dry storage for vessels up to 60 metres. The facility is equipped with a 485-ton lift, deep-water access and a comprehensive range of waterfront services, positioning it as a strategic addition to Safe Harbor Marinas’ growing portfolio.
