A shallow lagoon between islets where the white sand bottom turns the water an almost artificial pale blue, the most photographed swimming spot near Split. Snorkelling over sand and rock ledges with bream and octopus. Drvenik Veli has a few hundred residents and one village. The lagoon's colour comes from a shallow white sand shelf, and its accessibility from Split and Trogir made it the anchor point of Croatia's entire day-charter industry, which is now the main pressure on it. Anchorage: Anchor in 3-6m on sand between Drvenik Veli and the Krknjaši islets. Shallow and intricate, go in good light. Hazards: Very shallow with rock ledges, eyeball navigation. Heavy day-boat traffic in season.
