An uninhabited islet of bleached white rock shelves dropping straight into water so clear the bottom looks a metre away at ten. Repeatedly voted the best beach in Croatia despite having no sand at all. Bilin Žal and Batalo are the two swimming coves. Uninhabited and protected, reachable only by boat or a small ferry from Vela Luka. Korčula's Vela Luka bay behind it is one of the largest natural harbours in the Adriatic and was a Neolithic settlement site, Vela Spila cave above the town has 20,000 years of occupation. Anchorage: Day anchorage off the islet, deep and rocky, so set carefully. Vela Luka is the sheltered overnight. Hazards: Steep-to shore with deep water right at the rocks; no beach shelving.
