3 Yachts Caught Fire in Miami

In the early hours of March 7, 2025, a significant fire erupted along the Miami River, resulting in the destruction of three luxury yachts. The incident occurred around 3:30 a.m. near the 3200 block of Northwest North River Drive, prompting a substantial response from Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (MDFR).
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered two 60-foot yachts and one 90-foot yacht engulfed in flames. Over 30 MDFR units, including both land-based teams and marine vessels, were deployed to combat the blaze. Crews utilized water and specialized foam to suppress the fire, working diligently to prevent further spread.
Witnesses reported a massive explosion preceding the fire, with some describing the intensity as powerful enough to shake nearby structures. One local resident recounted waking up to the sound of an explosion that shattered his bedroom window.
The firefighting efforts faced challenges due to the size of the vessels and the potential environmental impact. MDFR implemented measures to contain fuel runoff, deploying oil-absorbent booms to minimize contamination of the waterway.
By approximately 6:30 a.m., the fire was brought under control. One yacht had sunk, another was nearly submerged, and the third sustained extensive damage. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Arson investigators from the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue are examining the incident to determine its origin.
This event underscores the potential hazards associated with large vessels and the importance of stringent safety protocols to prevent such incidents onboard.
