The Dutch shipyard Amels, part of Damen Yachting, has begun sea trials of its 120-metre flagship superyacht Tanzanite, marking a significant milestone in what will become the largest vessel ever built in the Netherlands.

That's an impressive achievement to hit by any metric.

Launched from the covered dock at the Vlissingen shipyard, Tanzanite has set sail to test her systems and performance before final outfitting and delivery, expected in late 2025 or early 2026. Over the coming weeks, she will undergo rigorous trials across multiple disciplines; propulsion, power, navigation, stabilization, safety, and comfort under both calm and challenging sea states.

Key highlights of Tanzanite’s design include her full‑aluminum construction, twin large swimming pools, helipads, and expansive glazed superstructure, providing sweeping ocean views from most interior lounges. Renderings show an interplay of light and volume inside, with a dramatic spiral staircase and glass‑bottom pool feeding natural light deep into the lower levels.

Amels has stressed that the superyacht's safety, reliability, and compliance are high priorities. The yard is working in tandem with Lloyd’s Register to certify each system to global standards, including redundancy, ballast loading, maneuvering in restricted waters, and emergency systems.

With Tanzanite now in the trial phase, all eyes are on her performance. If she meets expectations, she will stand not only as Amels’ flagship but as a new benchmark for scale, luxury, and long-range capability in today’s superyacht market.
