CES 2024: Mercury Marine Avator 75e and 110e
Mercury Marine, a renowned player in marine propulsion systems, recently unveiled its most advanced electric outboards at the Consumer Electronics Show 2024: the Avator 75e and 110e. These models mark a significant expansion in Mercury’s electric outboard range, which now includes five models, addressing a broad spectrum of small-sized boats.
The Avator 75e and 110e represent a new era in electric marine propulsion, offering a blend of power and efficiency. The 75e is capable of producing 7,500 watts, and the 110e delivers 11,000 watts of power at the prop shaft. This power output is noteworthy because it’s measured at the prop, which typically exhibits lower values than the engine’s output due to transmission and friction losses. In terms of horsepower, these values translate to approximately 10 and 14 horsepower respectively, using the general conversion of kilowatts to horsepower – 1 kW equals 1.3 horsepower.
These outboards are designed for a range of applications, including aluminum and composite multihulls, aluminum fishing boats, skiffs, inflatables, and smaller fiberglass runabouts. Their introduction aligns with Mercury’s commitment to providing low-voltage electric outboard options while setting new standards in quality, performance, and user experience.
Mercury Marine also presented a concept for a high-voltage electric propulsion system at the event, signifying its broader ambition to capture a larger share of the marine propulsion market. This move is in line with the company’s ongoing innovation and leadership in the marine industry.
Furthermore, the Avator line utilizes transverse-flux motor technology, which represents a significant advancement in electric motor design. This technology combines the benefits of axial and radial flux motors, offering an efficient and powerful system. The Avator 7.5e model features an integrated slide-in-slide-out battery system for easy swapping, a practical solution for extended boating sessions.
Mercury’s move towards electric propulsion systems not only showcases its commitment to innovation but also underscores the growing trend in the marine industry towards more sustainable and environmentally-friendly solutions. The company is set to release these models in the spring of 2024, and they are expected to reshape the electric outboard market significantly.
